What does each kit include?
Pre-drilled and pre-cut wooden frame, 2
had woven palm thatch tops, hardware,
and assembly instructions.
How
hard is it to build my own Palapa?
The single pole Palapa is the easiest.
A handy person, familiar with basic
tools (hammer, hand drill, staple gun)
should be able to make it through the
instructions without difficulty. The 2
pole ”Cancun” and 4 pole “Huts” are a
bit more complex and require two people
to put them together.
Is the wood uniform in color and
texture?
No. Variations in wood color and
texture exist and make the Palapa look
authentic. The few cracks that appear
in the wood components only increase the
desired appeal and add to the natural
beauty of your finished Palapa.
Strength and structural integrity are
unaffected.
How do I know what size or which style
to buy?
Be certain of your choice as Palapas can
not be exchanged or returned. Each one
is custom built for you. Generally, the
setting and desired location will
dictate the size. Palapa owners often
mix and match styles and sizes in one
backyard setting. Marking out the size
in the desired location's) in advance
often helps. Note: The peak of the
Palapas/Huts ranges from 8’-0” to 9’6”
(highest point). Head clearance is
6’-0” to 7’-4” (the palm thatch will
hang slightly lower)

How long does the hand-woven thatch
last?
In dry climates it can last 5 to 7 years
before it needs to be replaced and in
medium climates 3 to 4 years. We
recommend that you cover your thatch
during the winter season if you live in
an extremely wet location or an area
that receives regular snowfall.
What about heavy winds?
The hand-woven thatch holds up well in
heavy winds when it is correctly
installed, even surviving extreme winds
in excess of 75 miles per hour. The
structure and composition of the palm
thatch allows air and wind to pass
through it, unlike wood, metal or
canvas. With 120 hand-woven knots per
square foot, resistance to strong winds
is a natural and functional
characteristic of a Palapa.
Does the Palapa or thatch require any
regular maintenance or special care?
No. When the thatch is new and first
exposed to moisture, the palm sometimes
leaches a natural residue that can spot
the ground. It is easily washed off
with at garden hose. By thoroughly
hosing down and rinsing the palm thatch
in the beginning, you may avoid some
cleanup later. This procedure may be
repeated.
Does the thatch shed or unravel?
No. The palm leaf is naturally strong
and requires no maintenance.
Do I want a table?
Tables are installed over the main lodge
pole before constructing the Palapa
frame. You will need to decide in
advance whether or not you will want one.
